text: Jun. 26. Before Tripoli. In the presence of Baldwin, rex Ierosolimitani, Count Bertrand of St Gilles gives the church of St Laurence of the Genoese the whole of Gibeleth; castrum Rogerii constabularii; one third of the town of Tripoli, including everything from one sea to the other, as far as the Bafumaria belonging to the king, with blocks of houses [insulae] and the port. Bertrand hands this gift over to Guillelmus Embriacus, Obertus Ususmaris, Ingo Pedegola and Ansaldus Caput de Burgo. Bertrand concedes that no Genoese or man from Savona, Noli, Albenga resident along the coast from Nice to Portovenere, nor any Lombard in their company, will pay tributus when they transport pilgrims. If any of these men suffer at the hands of his subjects, Bertrand will render justice within 15 days. Jun. 26. Before Tripoli. comments: [19] Rheinheimer (Das Kreuzfahrerfürstentum Galiläa, pp. 40, 109-11) doubts whether the fiefs were ever returned, but Mayer (UKJ 1:123) appears to accept that the act took place.

comments: [20] Mayer (loc. cit.) has led the way in questioning the authenticity of this inscription. Its leading supporter has been Kedar (loc. cit.), who has had the better of the argument in my opinion, although the reported wording of the inscription looks doubtful.
