Raymond II, Dei gratia Tripolitanus comes, and his wife Hodierna Tripolis comitissa, daughter of the king of Jerusalem, record that at the request of Patriarch William of Jerusalem, who was returning from Antioch, and of his suffragans, Fulcherius Tyrensis archiepiscopus, Robertus Nazarenus archiepiscopus, Bernardus Sydoniensis episcopus and many others, who were with him, they gave the church and canons of the Holy Sepulchre freedom to import and export through the port of Tripoli anything they needed without paying duty. Raymond and Hodierna add a sealed eleemosynary grant, confirming everything given to the church and canons of the Holy Sepulchre by Count Raymond of St Gilles, his nephew William Jordan, Counts Bertrand and Pons and all the barones or terrarii, with the exception of Sanctus Georgius [in Montanis]. text: Feb. 3. Nablus. Patriarch William of Jerusalem records and seals an agreement, arbitrated in his presence in Jerusalem and Nablus and made between the brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem and Robertus Casalis Sancti Egidii and his wife, with the consent of Roardus vicecomes and his wife Gilla, and of King Fulk and Queen Melisende. Robertus and his wife give the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, Raimundus eiusdem domus magister and its brothers the land of Emaus with its casalia, just as Robertus had held it as a feudum from Roardus and his wife. In return the brothers of the Hospital will pay Robertus and his heirs each year a census of 250 besants at Easter or within 40 days and another 250 besants at the Feast of All Saints. The land will revert to Robertus if the Hospitallers fail to pay, but Robertus can, if he wishes, make an eleemosyinary grant to the brothers of up to 100 of these besants, or sell or commute them. Such an act will be confirmed by Roardus as an eleemosynary gift. The remaining 400 besants will continue to be paid. Patriarch William of Jerusalem and Petrus gloriosi Sepulcri prior, together with all its canons, record an agreement with the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, approved by King Fulk and his principes, relating to the land of Emaus given to the Hospital by Robertus de casale S. Egidii. The canons of the Holy Sepulchre will have half the tithes of all harvest, whether of wheat and barley, beans and chickpeas, lentils and peas, and other vegetable crops, or vines and olive trees. The Hospitallers will have the rest of the tithes, in order to manage their chapels and churches, in which they will have full parochial rights. With respect to the casalia they hold in the adjacent hills - casale Huldre; casale de Porcel; casale de Gaufrido Agule; casale de Ansquetino; casale de Bacheler; casale de Gerardo Bocher – or others they may acquire, they will pay the canons half tithes. If the harvest in a casale, whether cultivated by Christians or Muslims [Sarraceni], is commuted for money, the canons will still get half tithes. He confirms the Hospitallers in their possession of the casale, which they had been given by King Baldwin and which their rustici may continue to cultivate in the accustomed manner.
