[257] Bohemond, the son of Prince Bohemond of Antioch, Dei gratia Tripolis comes, records an agreement with Matheus Minchet vicecomes Pisanorum Tripoli, and Gandulfus, Bandinus and Ugo, emissaries [nuncii] of the consules of the Pisans in Acre. Petrus Tripolis episcopus had challenged the rights of free entry and departure with merchandise from Tripoli and the exemption of a third part of terciaria. The Pisans had claimed that the count had no rights in the funda of the Pisans in Tripoli or over the entry or departure from Tripoli with merchandise. Bohemond confirms that the Pisans already had these rights and receives in exchange a gift of 500 Saracen besants. With the agreement of his wife domna Ysabella regis Amalrici filia, Aimery, per dei gratiam rex Ierusalem nonus et rex Cipri, records under seal that he has sold the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans a casale in the region of Acre called Aguille with its villani and gastinae for 3000 Saracen besants. He adds the following gifts: the right to take a rotula of sugar each day from the sugar press [masarium] in his casale called Fiergio for the needs of the sick in the hospital; in Casale Vmberti and his other casalia in the region of Acre the right to take each year 1 clicha of wheat and 1 clicha of barley from every worked carruca, to be provided by the rustici; 5 carrublae paid by the rustici for every 100 goats wintering in Aimery’s land, and 2 out of the 10 carrublae which Aimery levies for every 10 goats; 3 karrublae provided by the rustici for every carrucata owing Aimery 2 besants. Aimery confirms the eleemosynary gifts and old freedom [francisia] granted to the hospital in Cyprus by King Amalric. Pope Innocent III rebukes the patriarch of Antioch for following the example of his predecessor, who had translated the archbishop of Mamistra [Mamistanum] to the archbishopric of Tarsus [Tharsenensis]. The patriarch had translated La[uranetius], the archbishop-elect of Apamea, previously confirmed as bishop of Valenia, to the diocese of Tripoli. Stressing the rights of the papacy in such matters, Innocent quashes the translation, also revokes the translation to Tarsus and suspends the right of the patriarch to confirm the appointment of bishops. text: Probably Mar. 18 - Apr. 8. Lateran. Pope Innocent III writes to the magister and brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. A case has been heard in Rome relating to complaints brought by Seguinus prior sancti Michaelis and Aimericus canonicus Tripolitanus, emissaries of the church of Tripoli. Pope Celestine III had written to the patriarch of Jerusalem, ordering the archbishop of Nazareth and the abbas of the Mt of Olives to put the Hospitallers in possession of church of Nephin, its tithes and 3 casalia. Innocent reverses that judgement in favour of the church of Tripoli. He has ordered the archbishop of Tyre and the bishop of Sidon to execute his judgement. Probably Mar. 18 - Apr. 8. Lateran.
