text: End Dec. 1199 - Early Jan. 1200. Pope Innocent III writes to the archbishop of Tyre and the bishop of Sidon. A case was heard in Rome by 3 cardinals relating to a dispute over the church of Nefins, its tithes and 3 casalia, between the church of Tripoli, represented by S[eguinus] prior sancti Michaelis and A[imericus] canonicus Tripolitanus, and the magister and brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. Pope Celestine III had written to the patriarch of Jerusalem, ordering the archbishop of Nazareth and the abbas of the Mt of Olives to put the Hospitallers in possession of church of Nephin, its tithes and the 3 casalia. Innocent reverses that judgement in favour of the church of Tripoli. He orders the archbishop of Tyre and the bishop of Sidon to execute his judgement. End Dec. 1199 - Early Jan. 1200. Pope Innocent III informs the bishops of Tripoli and Tortosa [Antaradensis] of a dispute between King Aimery of Cyprus and the church of Cyprus, represented at the Holy See by the bishop of Paphos, over tithes payable by Latin Christians, and tithes on the terciae of fruits and labour paid by Greeks, and on the offspring of animals. These have been retained by the king and others in spite of a specific decision by Pope C[elestine III] that excluded only the offspring of cattle and horses. text: Apr. 5. Lateran. Pope Innocent III writes to the patriarch of Jerusalem and the archbishop of Caesarea. He describes how the bishop of Paphos came into his presence, bringing the sentence delivered by the [judge delegates], the bishops of Acre, Tiberias and Beirut, in the case between the archbishop of Tyre and the plebanus of the church of St Mark [in Tyre]. The bishops had followed the papal mandate in demanding that the parties appear before them, but the plebanus had refused to accept the papal mandate or appear before them, appealing instead directly to the Holy See. The bishops visited Tyre, heard testimony and excommunicated the plebanus, restoring his church to the parochial jurisdiction of the archbishop. But representatives of the doge of Venice informed the pope that the Venetians had at the time of the conquest been granted one third of Tyre and that the church of St Mark in Tyre had had parochial rights for a long time. They present letters from Popes Clement III and Celestine III in support of their argument. It was pointed out, moreover, that two of the judge delegates were suffragans of Tyre and therefore biased. Innocent quashes the judgement of the bishops and orders the archbishop of Tyre to restore its rights to the church. The patriarch and archbishop should have this decision published in Tyre. Apr. 5. He promises the brothers full justice, in accordance with the papal mandate, against any in his diocese who employ violence against them or occupy their possessions. He and the brothers promise mutual concord. Patriarch [Aymar] Monachus of Jerusalem records an agreement, made with dominus Willelmus de Amigdalea, acting on his own behalf and of that of his wife domina Agnes, the daughter of comes Ioscelinus. The agreement, made under the seals of the patriarch and the king in the curia and in the presence of King Aimery of Jerusalem and dominus Rainaldus Sydonis, the uncle of Agnes, concerns the casale called Ieth, which will be possessed with all its villani by the patriarch for his lifetime. After the patriarch’s death it will revert to Willelmus, his wife and their heirs.
