Pope Alexander IV writes to Hugo, canon of Limassaol (Nimociensis), the nephew of Master Johannes de Camezano, papal chaplain and auditor of papal contradictory letters, relating that when he heard that Hugo intended to resign the office of overseer of the granary and the lands that he possessed in the church of Brives (Brivatensis ), where he is a canon, and any rights in them, and that Guillelmus de Cros, then canon of Limsassol, intended to do the same with his place, canonry, and prebend that he had in the church of Limassol, the pope committed to Master Jacobus de Mirabello, canon of Novara (Novariensis), the corrector of papal letters, the task of receiving these things directly or via procurators and assigning Guillemus’ things to Hugo and Hugo’s things to Guillelmus, which Jacobus did via Hugo’s procurator Master Philippus Caballo and Guillelmus’ procurator Petrus de Banhols, a cleric, notwithstanding if Hugo was beneficed elsewhere or if in the churches Brivatensis and/or Limassol (Nimociensis) there were expectant canons received by any authority. The pope now confirms what Jacobus did and has Jacobus’ letter inserted. Jacobus’ letter includes the information that Guillelmus is also a canon Claromontensis and Philipus is a cleric of Johannes de Camezano. Jacobus’ letter is dated the Lateran, January 8, 1257, drawn up by Thomas, notary of the Roman Church, and given before several witnesses.

Pope Alexander IV writes to the prior of St Eligius (Saint-Éloi) Parisiensis and the dean of St Martin of Tours (Turonensis), relating that it was proposed before him on behalf of Count Alfonsus Eu (Augi), chamberlain of the Kingdom of France, the son of the late King Johannes [of Brienne] of Jerusalem, that the late Pope Innocentius [IV] granted that he be assigned up to 6,000 livres tournois from redemptions of crusading vows and from imprecise bequests and other money directed to support of the Holy Land for any reason in the provinces Rouen (Rothomagensis) and Tours (Turonensis), to be collected, deposited in safe places, and afterwards assigned to him or his procurators by the abbots de Neafla Vetreri (Neauple-le-Vieux) of the diocese Carnotensis (Chartres) and Eu (Auri) of the diocese Rouen (Rothomagensis). This was on account of the count's vow to devote two years to the cause of the Holy Land, going to great expense and putting him in serious debt. When the pope rose to his position, he wrote to the same abbots ordering them, if it is so and the count had not yet received the money, to follow his predecessor's instructions. Thus the count humbly requested that, since he still has not received all the funds, the pope provide for him. Responding to his requests the pope orders the addressees to collect and have the money assigned to the count, minus what the count is known to have received, according to his predecessor's letter.

Pope Alexander IV writes to Patriarch [Opizo Fieschi] of Antioch and Bishop [Opizo] of Tripoli (Tripolitanus), repeating the previous letter (i.e. of 16 January, RRR 3179), mutatis mutandis, but adding that he is ordering the patriarch and/or the bishop to install and defend as installed Hugo, the nephew of the papal chaplain Johannes of Camezano, or his procurator, or someone else in his name, in corporal possession of the place, canonry, and prebend [in the church of Limassol] along with all rights and appurtenances, having him received as canon and brother in the church of Limassol (Nimociensis), assigned a place in the chapter and a stall in the choir, and given the fruits of his prebend, notwithstanding any statute concerning a fixed number of canons, strengthened by oath, papal confirmation, or anything else, or indulgence given to the chapter or officials of the church of Limassol, or if Hugo is not personally present to take the oath to observe the statutes and customs of that church, or the constitution de duabus dietis of the [Fourth Lateran] Council.

John of Ibelin (Johan d’Ybelin), count of Jaffa and Ascalon and lord of Ramla, issues a sealed diploma confirming in perpetuity in favour of Hospitaller Master William of Chastel Neuf (Guillaume de Chasteau Nuef) and his covent 650 charruées of land in his lordship of Ascalon in return for relinquishing all claims against the count for the expenses the Order has incurred in defending Ascalon. Witnessed by his homes: Gautier of Ibelin (d’Ybelin) mareschal, Estiene de Sauvegni, Baudoin de Sure, Emjorran de Toisi, Baudoyn de Corbie, Pierre l’Aleman.

John Ibelin (Johan d’Ybelin), count of Jaffa and Ascalon and lord of Ramla, grants to the master of the Hospitallers, William of Chastel Neuf (Guillaume de Chasteau Nuef), and his covent fourteen casaus from his lordship of Ascalon: Malaques, Saarethe, Heleiquat, Zeite, Amouhde, Elgedeide, Phetora, Semsem, Camsa, Beitderas la seconde, Elroeiheib, Agelen el Hayet, Agelen el Ahssas and Beze with all their appurtenances, saving the dreiture des chemins and the vilains who shall be there for two years after Ascalon shall come by truce into the hands of the Christians. Within forty days of Ascalon being recovered he or his heirs will grant the Hospitallers 650 carrucates from these casaus to be delineated by himself, the then master of the Hospital and the Franciscan custos of Acre. text: February 12. Lateran. Pope Alexander IV writes to Patriarch J[acobus Pantaléon] of Jerusalem, relating that at one time the late Pope I[nnocentius IV] granted the master and brothers of the knighthood of the Temple of Jerusalem that they could received everywhere outside the Kingdom of Germany up to 10,000 silver marks from money spent in redemption of crusading vows in support of the Holy Land; from money gained via usury, robbery, or other evil ways that the faithful order to be restored in their last will or are ready to do so while they are living, even if they are healthy, as long as those to whom the money must be restored cannot be found at all; and from testaments of the faithful with bequests to the Holy Land without expressing specific places or persons, assigning them certain executors for this. Afterward, however, the present pope, before the master and brothers, as they claimed, received that amount, ordered that the addressee receive this money from redemptions and bequests in the Kingdom of Jerusalem, but in order to avoid trouble between the patriarch and the Templars, in answer to the patriarch's prayers the pope granted that the Templars could receive this money in the Kingdom of Germany and everywhere else outside the Kingdom of Jerusalem. But because, as the patriarch asserts, the Templars are prepared to cede to the patriarch the money gained via usury, robbery, or other evil ways, of which they have not yet received anything in the Kingdom of Jerusalem, the pope grants that the patriarch can receive this money as well, considering the patriarch's fear of the coming of the Mongols (Tartari ) and his expenses in defending his church and subjects and the Holy Land while he is in exile from his church with tenuous incomes. If he leaves, restores, or gives anything to the people from whom he received this money, however, they shall not be absolved for that amount at all.
