text: Jan. 1-31. Ugo Caesariensis dominus makes a sealed eleemosynary grant, to favour the souls of his father and grandfather who are buried in the church of St Mary of the Latins. He confirms the properties held by St Mary in his lordship and its right to come and go, and buy and sell, freely without any payment of dues [exactio, redditus]. He confirms for Rainaldus abbas, representing the abbey, possession of land he had once given to the abbey, which is between the hill…. [and] the Fons Sanctae Cannae. The land had belonged to Nicolaus Azopardus and now to Adelasia the wife of Stephanus Baratae. He had promised Stephanus compensation, but Stephanus had died and he therefore buys the land from Adelasia for 20 besants. text: Mar. 16. During the siege of Blahasent/Belhasam [Qal‘at Abu’l-Hassan]. Baldwin, per dei gratiam in sancta civitate Iherusalem Latinorum rex, with the agreement of his wife Theodora Iherosolimorum regina and his brother Amalricus comes Ascalonitanus, confirms under seal an agreement with Rainaldus Falconarius. Rainaldus allows the king to create as many canals as he likes to draw off water from the River of Acre, called Belus, to irrigate his sugar cane plantations. In return the king will give Rainaldus one fifth of the profits from the sale of sugar, after expenses have been deducted. The king permits Rainaldus to exact the same dues [talis exactio et talis consuetudo] from all mills inside and outside Acre as he took formerly from his mills on the River Belus. He promises Rainaldus and his wife domina Luciana, that his heirs will have the same rights. N. prior Sancti Sepulcri and his convent give Guido Camelarius, Giraldus Caprellus and Hugo de Joppe, and others coming to live in the place called Nova Villa, in [the territory of] the casale of Ramathes, plateae on which to build houses freed from the payment of rent and lands on which to plant vines and trees, as, instructed by domnus Petrus de Sepulcro. Guido and Hugo are each given 1 carrucata terre, and Giraldus 2. They will pay each each quartus et decima of the grain and vegetables and quintus et decima of vines and olive trees. Giraldus and Hugo are also given a great part of the olive grove that Willelmus Beritensis had planted, returning quartus et decima of the fruits. The settlers will transport these returns - quartus, quintus, decima - to the Holy Sepulchre’s voltae in Nova Villa. Usage of the oven and mill and other consuetudines will be according to the practice at Mahumeria. Giraldus Caprellus and Hugo de Joppe are also given the Holy Sepulchre’s vineyard at Ramathes, for which they will pay medietas et decima. The settlers can sell to any burgensis, but the Holy Sepulchre will have preemption rights. [79] Rainald, Dei permissione Princeps Antiochenus, together with his wife domina Constantia eiusdem honoris Principissa, the daughter of Bohemond [II], makes a sealed eleemosynary gift to the Knights Templar [militia Christi, fratres Templi triplicis Salomonis]. He confirms everything given them by Rainaldus dominus Margati, the son of Rainaldus Masuerius, with the consent of his wife Agnes, the daughter of the count of Tripoli, and their sons. With the consent of Agnes and his son Thomas, Rainaldus had sold the Templars a gastina called Bolferis, situated in the mountains above Valenia for 500 besants, but he had retained for the use of his heirs a gastina called Magaytemme and mills on the river which descended from Castellum Laycas. Bolferis was given to the Templars through Prince Rainald, who added the house of the hospital in Valenia, together with a vineyard, a garden and land the Templars already possessed, together with a mill situated between Ericium and the sea. Rainaldus the son of Rainaldus Masuerius retained, however, the servitium due for the feodum in the Curia Antiochena.
