Map

Where the beneficiary institutions stood. The Regesta holds no coordinates of its own, so each house was geocoded against Wikidata and every coordinate below cites the record it came from. Dot area is proportional to the number of entries; scroll to zoom, and click a place for its entries.

This is a map of endowment, not of settlement. It plots the institution an entry names as beneficiary — not where the document was written, not where the property lay, and not where the parties stood. A grant made in Acre to a Jerusalem house appears here at Jerusalem.

Site or settlement. Where the house itself is identifiable — the Holy Sepulchre, the Dome of the Rock, Mar Saba — the dot is on the building. Otherwise the settlement stands in for it, and “the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem” is plotted at the centre of Jerusalem rather than at the Muristan. Each entry in the list below says which it is.

Two orders are plotted at their principal house — the Templars at the Temple Mount, the Teutonic Hospital of Saint Mary of the Germans at Acre. That is an editorial decision about the order, not a fact about any individual entry, and it is the one place on this map where a dot asserts more than the database does.

Nothing here is guessed. Wikidata’s search returns the commonest match rather than the right one — a naive lookup put Hebron in Northumberland and Tiberias in Indonesia — so every coordinate was checked to fall in the Levant and is cited by Q-number. Houses that could not be established from a citable record are listed unplaced rather than given a plausible-looking dot.
