How many documents the Regesta records for each year, across the whole span of the database. Hover the chart to read a single year.
What this shows, and what it does not. The line counts entries in the database, not documents that once existed. Peaks tend to mark years of intense charter production that also survived and were edited — a papal register preserved intact can lift a single year above its neighbours. Troughs are as often gaps in survival, or in the edition’s current coverage, as they are quiet years in the Latin East.
Years with no surviving entry are drawn as real zeroes rather than skipped, so the horizontal axis stays true to elapsed time. The database is still being extended, and its later years are the least complete.
